Salt lamps are blocks of Himalayan rock mounted on a hardwood base with an internal incandescent or LED bulb. Lit, they produce a characteristic amber glow; unlit, they read as decorative rock. Caring for a salt lamp
Salt is hygroscopic — it absorbs ambient moisture. In humid rooms (bathrooms, kitchens, basements), salt lamps may "sweat" or develop a slight white film. To minimise: keep the lamp lit during humid weather (the bulb's heat dries it), avoid placing on porous surfaces, and wipe with a dry cloth periodically. Lamps in dry climates require no maintenance.
