All PMT Himalayan salt originates from the Khewra Salt Mine in Punjab, Pakistan — the world’s second-largest salt deposit, in continuous operation since 1872. Rock is extracted under the operational stewardship of the Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC) and supplied to licensed refineries, including ours, where it is washed, graded, dried, and packed.

Every PMT shipment carries a unique batch number that maps back to mine extraction date, refinery production batch, lab analysis results, and shipping documents — a complete forward and backward audit trail available on request.

Lab testing

In-house lab panel

Every production batch is sampled and tested at the refinery in-house lab for:

  • Sodium chloride content (titration / argentometric)
  • Water-insoluble matter
  • Acid-insoluble matter
  • Moisture content (Karl Fischer / oven)
  • Iron, calcium, magnesium, sulphate (atomic absorption spectroscopy)
  • Heavy metals: arsenic, lead, copper (AAS)
  • Microbiological: total plate count, coliforms, E. coli, yeast & mould, Salmonella

Independent verification by accredited third-party labs (SGS Pakistan, Bureau Veritas, Intertek) available per shipment at buyer’s request — quoted as a line item on the proforma invoice (typically $150–$300 per consignment).

Different destination markets impose different documentary and testing requirements. PMT’s quote team confirms requirements at PI stage and includes all necessary certificates. Common destination-specific requirements we handle as standard:

  • United States — FDA Prior Notice, FCE/SID where applicable
  • European Union — Health Certificate, REACH compliance statement
  • Saudi Arabia — SABER certificate, SASO conformity
  • UAE — Halal certificate (issued by accredited body)
  • Australia — DAFF import permit + heat treatment / fumigation certificate
  • Japan — Importer registration + JAS standards declaration
